Hamptons Shop Talk: Sequin

by Dena Silver
Sequin

While the initial draw of the Hamptons might be picturesque beaches and pristine summer homes, the East End has undoubtedly become a go-to shopping destination. With world-class boutiques situated next to Mom-and-Pop retailers, you could easily spend an entire weekend perusing Main Street in East Hampton or Jobs Lane in Southampton and beyond. So, The Daily Summer went to town chatting with the chicest boutique’s gatekeepers, aka the sales girls and boys, to see what’s happening on the shopping front. Can you blame us for snagging a few summer must-haves in the process? The beautiful window displays at Sequin, on Jobs Lane in Southampton, lured us in. We chatted up Sequin sales associate Caitlin O’Rourke for the full rundown…

Where are you from?
I live upstate in Duchess County; I’m just out here for the summer.

What’s haute on the jewelry front this summer?
We’ve got a lot of dainty stuff in store, and a lot of the Talisman jewelry: customers come in, pick their necklace length and their charms, and we put the pieces together for them.

Where are Sequin’s other locations?
Palm Beach, Martha’s Vineyard, and Rhode Island. This is the only one in New York!

What’s your favorite part about working here?
Trying on all of the jewelry every day.

What’s your work uniform?
White jeans and a blue top, of any shade. Last year, we did an aqua shade because we had this whole blue setup in the front of the store, but now it’s all flowers.

What do you do on your days off?
I usually stay in Hampton Bays, so I end up at Tiana Beach.

Where do you take your lunch break?
In here, sometimes we order from the Village Gourmet Cheese Shoppe on the corner. I really like their sandwiches.
