Hamptons Shop Talk: Malia Mills

By  |  0 Comments

While the initial draw of the Hamptons might be picturesque beaches and pristine summer homes, the East End has undoubtedly become a go-to shopping destination. With world-class boutiques situated next to mom-and-pop retailers, you could easily spend an entire weekend perusing Main Street in East Hampton or Jobs Lane in Southampton and beyond. So, The Daily Summer went to town chatting with the chicest boutique’s gatekeepers, aka the sales girls and boys, to see what’s happening on the shopping front. Can you blame us for snagging a few summer must-haves in the process? For this installment, we sauntered into Malia Mills in Southampton, where Mary Landholm give us the lowdown on the label’s swimwear and why it fits so well.

What’s your job title here?
I’m a fit specialist.

What does that entail?
Malia Mills specializes in bra-fitting swimwear. We do swim separates, bra-fitting tops, and bottoms that correspond to pant sizes. My job is to find a style of swimsuit that fits a customer’s body. This way we can get them a style that suits their needs and their shape.

What’s your favorite style this season?
The Vamp, which is a triangle top with a tie that you can wrap around your body and criss-cross the straps. It’s super versatile.

Has your bathing suit collection grown since you started as a fit specialist?
It definitely has! I love that you can mix and match everything here, because each time I buy a piece, it means I have a bunch of options to pair it with.

Are you a Hamptons local?
No, I’m from Nebraska.

What’s the biggest difference between Nebraska and the Hamptons?
Everything! I think the biggest difference that I’ve found is the lifestyle and the people in general. It’s been a big change. I’m not quite used to the designer retail scene, so it’s been fun to experience this!

What’s your favorite place to hang out?
I love every beach I’ve been to here!

What’s your style like when you’re not at work?
I like to be comfortable but put together and I like things that I can mix and match. I prefer pieces that I can wear during the day and at night, and I love colors, too. The brighter, the better!
