Unconventional castings have become, well, conventional at this point. But the stunning 88-year-old who stars in the new jewelry and timepieces ads for Gucci is not just your average octogenarian. It’s Tippi Hedren — star of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1963 film “The Birds.”

She’s also the grandmother of Dakota Johnson, an oft-referenced muse of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele. Johnson has sat front row at nearly every Gucci show during his tenure and she’s the face of Gucci Bloom perfume.
In the new ad, Hedren plays a fortune-teller — a wildly successful one given that she is dressed in a beautiful Gucci smock. She’s seated at a table, griping a gleaming crystal ball, her hot red-manicured fingers dripping in jewels. A string of models — Victoria Schons, Emily Unkles, Tom Atton Moore and Tex Santos-Shaw — stop by get their palms read and end up bartering their Gucci bijoux for a reading from Hedren.
Both the short film and the still imagery that make up the campaign were shot by Colin Dodgson and include close-ups of the Gucci Ouroboros, GG Running, and Le Marché des Merveilles fine jewelry collections and the G-Frame and G-Timeless timepieces. Here’s hoping Hedren got to keep a few lovely little bits for herself.
