Green With Envy: Garden Inspo From Frederico Azevedo

by Charles Manning

Each week throughout the summer, The Daily will be highlighting one stunning garden view from award winning landscape designer Frederico Azevedo, owner of Unlimited Earth Care, Inc. Let the beauty of his creations wash over you and get inspired to go digging in the dirt yourself this summer.

“This pool is framed in flora to blend its stark angles into the landscape and invite colorful reflections to its surface,” says Azevedo. “I plant flowers close to pools to bring swimmers scent, butterflies, and of course something beautiful to look at, but to enjoy the scene from a distance it’s essential that I consider how the gardens will look reflected in the water, and whether the pool feels like an integrated element. I planted the trimmed boxwoods on a berm to raise the garden above the pool and ensure reflections and placed another garden on a lower level to create a view from the infinity edge. The planted stone urns tie everything together and create a dreamlike space — elegant, but not overly maintained; a modern interpretation of the classically-inspired grottos and fountains of 17th century French gardens, like the Medici Fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg.”

Born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 1962, Frederico Azevedo has studied landscape design in Brazil, England, and the U.S. and is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, the American Horticultural Society, and the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons. His latest book, Bloom: The Luminous Gardens of Frederico Azevedo, is available now at Pointedleafpress.com and on Amazon.
