Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards, better known as the annual tear-jerker awards, has big plans for 2016, EIC Cindi Leive announced today. This year, it’s ditching NYC for sunny L.A. and it will also expand into a day of programming to become the Women of the Year LIVE summit, where guests can meet past and present honorees during a daylong experience. New Yorkers, fret not—the awards portion will be live-streamed in conjunction with Conde Nast Entertainment.
“Women of the Year has honored the world’s most pioneering women for 25 years, and we’re thrilled to build on that history by giving our audience of young women a chance to hear directly from our winners through the Women of the Year LIVE summit,” said Leive. “Holding the event on the West Coast also allows us to reach new audiences—which is so crucial in this momentous year for women, with so much discussion about women’s achievements in Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and, of course, politics.”
Glamour’s eight honorees will join past winners and presenters for conversations and experiences for an audience of young women. Past honorees include Malala Yousafzai, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, Lupita Nyong’o, Lady Gaga, Reese Witherspoon, Shonda Rhimes, Gloria Steinem, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, with former presenters including Oprah Winfrey, President Bill Clinton, Bruce Willis, Viola Davis, and Natalie Portman.
WOTY also supports Glamour’s The Girl Project, which launched in 2014 and supports the secondary-school education of girls in 95 countries around the world.
