Fendi Blossoms at Haute Couture

by Paige Reddinger

How does Fendi’s garden grow? To the hilt, of course! Karl Lagerfeld would have it no other way. Couture always runs a pricey tab, but when you consider the amount of intricate lace, fur, and extreme detail in this collection, one can only imagine what it weighs in gold. The models came wrapped in cocoons of iris, daisy, and poppy flowers or swathed in lush sable and Persian lamb, some of which was hand-cut into meticulous pixel confetti, where thousands of discs were stitched onto silk organza. Mink was assembled as opulent lace on collars and cuffs and was mixed with silk, golden needlepoint, and mink thread in post-Impressionist hand-painted landscapes. And flowerpot clutches cut from leather will surely be the talk of any chic fête. It was the height of indulgence. We may be approaching chillier times, but Lagerfeld’s dreamy florals have optimistically already taken root.
