Fashion Dean Simon Collins To Leave Parsons

Simon Collins

Beloved Parsons dean of the school of fashion, Simon Collins, sent out an email yesterday evening telling friends that he’ll be leaving his role later this year. (Say it ain’t so!) How does one of fashion’s coolest cats explain his exit? His words tell it best. Read the explanation for his departure from the e-mail he sent out.

“Dear friends,

It is with a little sadness, some trepidation, and with boundless energy and excitement that I can announce I will be stepping down from my role as Dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons at the end of the Fall semester in December of this year. While I will miss every moment of what we have done here I feel the time is right for a new person to take this role and assume leadership of the School of Fashion. In turn this will enable me to focus on my rapidly expanding professional practice.

These past six years have been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my professional life and I cannot begin to describe how much I have loved and learned throughout. There have been so many highs (plus one or two tricky moments) that I shall never cease to be amazed at how much joy and learning can be crammed into such a short period. I have been amazed, amused, delighted, shocked, humbled, impressed, disappointed, bemused, bedazzled, perplexed, educated and above all inspired by so many people, by so many of you, and I will be forever in your debt.

I am honored to have played a small role in the formation of the School of Fashion and to perhaps have helped a few people and projects along the way. I have forged lasting friendships with so many people inside and outside the school that I know will endure long into the future. I am humbled by the kind words I have heard through these years and I will be forever indebted to this fine and noble institution for all it has allowed me to do.

My future is as busy as these past six years have been, and while from January 1st 2015 I will no longer be Dean I will still be doing all I can to support Parsons.

Because, of course,

Ave atque vale,
