Facing The Face, Episode 1

by The Daily Front Row

Miss The Face last week? We’ve enlisted our Pratt intern Samantha Borek to give us a recap of episode one and tell us a little more about how things are shaping up this round. Episode two airs tonight on Oxygen. Take it away, Sam…

Oxygen kicked off the second season of The Face with a cut-throat premiere last Wednesday. The competition started out tame enough–just a surprise runway show in Bryant Park in nothing but undies. No biggie, except this is where newbie judges Anne V. and Lydia Hearst joined forces with Naomi Campbell to have their pick of the litter. This season is packed full of the exotic with girls like Kira; the ex-gymnast turned model from Russia (who surprisingly did not go with Anne’s team after she said that was her top choice), Khadisha from Senegal, and Swiss Miss Isabelle.  The down-home girls are bringing the competition though with New York natives Nakisha and Afiya.  Even the inexperienced, but instantly loveable (who can’t fall for the Denny’s-waitress-trying-to-make-it story?), Ray is a contender with her boundless energy.

With the teams chosen – Team Naomi: Kira, Felisa, Afiya, and Alana; Team Anne: Khadisha, Isabelle, Tiana, and Sharon; and Team Lydia: Ray, Nakisha, Allison, and Amanda – the first challenge (a window display for Juicy Couture) began. The battle between Anne and Naomi continued when Naomi’s selfie themed display won the challenge over Anne’s beautifully dressed models. It’s okay, Anne. We’d be upset too if our model looked that good in that striking orange blouse and didn’t win anything. Not to mention it actually looked like her girls were having a “Night on the Town” and not in a remake of Night of the Living Dead. Team Lydia, needless to say, were the underdogs. Anne, believing that Naomi would never send Isabelle home, sent her into elimination against Ray for battle of the eyebrows. At this point we were sure Ray was toast. Her clunky runway walk had nothing on Isabelle’s lean mean physique, but Naomi was out for talented blood saying that Isabelle already had a strong career ahead of her and sent her packing. Anne will probably think twice before playing hardball with her golden team again. Sorry Isabelle, your eyebrows were no match for Ray’s. The game is afoot, lovelies…
