(NEW YORK) As Anne Fulenwider approaches the five-month mark as EIC of Marie Claire, she’s made masthead additions: Laura Ferrara has been named fashion editor-at-large and Jennifer Goldstein joins as executive beauty and health editor. Ferrara comes to MC with a strong track record as a freelance fashion ed, plus a history at another Hearst glossy, Harper’s Bazaar. Circa Liz Tilberis’ era helming Bazaar, Ferrara served as fashion editor at the title. Styling credits for the mag’s new editor-at-large include Vogue, Teen Vogue, InStyle, and erstwhile Conde title, Jane.
What’s does that sometimes nebulous at-large title entail for Ferrara, exactly? “She’ll be styling cover, fashion, and beauty shoots, and working closely with Nina and the team on the fashion direction of the magazine,” Fulenwider told The Daily. “Laura will come in for run-throughs, meetings, and as much as possible as I love her style and input.”
On the beauty beat, Goldstein is arriving at Marie Claire from Prevention, where she was beauty director, following a stint as Health‘s senior fashion and beauty director. Pre-Health, Goldstein had a decidedly more edgy gig than most fashion title folks: she was an editor at tattoo-chronicling mag Inked, during its 2007 relaunch. Goldstein will report to MC‘s beauty and health director, Erin Flaherty, who’s Goldstein’s predecessor. Last month, Flaherty was bumped up to beauty and health director after Ying Chu left MC last month after a lengthy five-year stint in the role to join Glamour as executive beauty director.
“Jennifer’s extensive background in beauty and health will be a boost to our stellar beauty department, and the fact that she’s climbed a few mountains will help kick us all in gear,” Fulenwider told The Daily.
In other MC masthead news, Nina Sterghiou has been promoted from market director to style and market director, five years after joining the mag as accessories director in 2008; prior to Marie Claire, Sterghiou spent time at Elle, Bazaar, and WWD.
Meanwhile, expect to see Fulenwider’s full stamp on MC in the March issue, featuring a trio of beaut Keira Knightley covers and bragging rights as the mag’s fattest March issue ever, thanks to a 15.3 percent increase in ad pages.
