Former NYLON associate publisher Karim Abay, who resigned from the publication in May after nearly a decade, has found his next gig. PAPER has announced that Abay will become their senior vice president of sales and marketing and associate publisher. In his new role, he will oversee business development and marketing for PAPER, Papermag.com, as well as their agency, ExtraExtra. “We are thrilled to have Karim join the team,” PAPER CCO Drew Elliott said. “He has proven success working with the demographic that we are talking to. This year will make significant new efforts and investment in our digital properties, experiential activations, and innovative print executions, and Karim will lead this path for our partners and advertisers.” During his time at NYLON, Abay increased sales by 500 percent and launched the publications’ digital counterpart, NylonMag.com, as well as their men’s title, NYLON Guys. He has also had roles at Trace MagazineOUT, and The Advocate.

PAPER is working on beefing up their digital presence in the next year; they got a huge boost recently thanks to their #BreakTheInternet issue featuring Kim Kardashian on two covers last November, which generated worldwide press impressions estimated to be in the billions. Their latest cover features Marilyn Manson for their ‘Do You Believe‘ issue. Abay started in his new role yesterday.
