Emily Ratajkowski’s Husband Won Her Over With A Paperclip Ring

by Taylor Harris

Newlywed Emily Ratajkowski — and our Model of the Year honoree — opened up about her recent nupitals on Tuesday night while on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. The 26-year-old model revealed she first rejected her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard’s proposal when he asked for her hand in marriage after only a few months of dating. But her hubby eventually won her over by fashioning a makeshift engagement ring out of a paperclip.

“He proposed to me at Minetta Tavern and he didn’t have a ring,” she said. “He then took the paperclip that the bill was paid with and made me a ring, which I actually thought was really romantic.”

The couple later replaced the ring but just with a different DIY version. “We made our actual rings,” she explained. “We walked into Chinatown and bought an ounce of gold and [Bear-McClard] was like, ‘We’ll melt down the gold and make the rings,'” she said. “He ended up going to some store in Midtown and met this nice Israeli man — this is the night before our wedding by the way — and he was like, ‘I know how to do that.’ So we came into his studio after hours and we actually hammered them out, the whole thing, used a little blow torch.”

And she still wears it. “It was supposed to be temporary but I’m now growing attached to it and I don’t wanna get rid of it. I just feel like making it yourself, could it be more personal?”

The couple wed in a low-key courthouse ceremony in March during which Ratajowski wore a $129 mustard-colored Zara blazer and an oversized black hat.

“Yeah, [the outfit] was part of my plan to going unnoticed. That didn’t really work out,” she laughed.
