Emerging Fashion Redefines the Season’s Grand Finale

by David Williams

New York Fashion Week just wrapped up with breathtaking comebacks and electrifying debut (Check out NYFW: COS, PatBO, Melitta Baumeister, & More Close Spring 2025’s Shows!). Historically, Paris has always taken center stage as the grand finale of fashion season, a city known for its lights and sartorial splendor. But this year, the traditional fashion circuit of New York, London, Paris, and Milan is making room for a reimagined contender – Moscow.

Once a destination for dated luxury where global brands flocked to establish presence, Moscow has transformed into a burgeoning hub for emerging fashion talent from across the world. This October, the city is stepping into the spotlight, preparing to host a lineup of fashion brands and industry leaders from around the globe—except for the EU, of course. In a move that’s surprising to some, fashion executives from over 100 countries will descend on Moscow for the BRICS+ Fashion Summit from October 3 to 5. Expect a global spectacle showcasing the brightest minds in fashion from developing nations, all aligned with Moscow Fashion Week, which follows the Summit.

Lights, Camera, BRICS+
The BRICS+ Fashion Summit is rapidly establishing itself as the premier platform for the fashion industry across the global South and East. With over 50 designers from Africa and Latin America participating, the Summit promises to be a true style symphony. All eyes are on China’s presence, serving as the crescendo of the event, echoing the spotlight India enjoyed last year during India’s Sustainable Fashion Odyssey.

Last fall, Moscow’s first BRICS+ gathering garnered rave reviews, particularly from nations with fast-growing economies. Now, the exclusive BRICS alliance—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—enters a new expansion phase, poised to welcome additional members.

The New Powerhouse of Fashion
With the BRICS+ consortium’s nerve center now seemingly anchored in Beijing, the fashion compass is clearly shifting eastward. China’s influence on the fashion industry is undeniable. According to Yang Jian, Chairman of the China Fashion Association, Southern China has become a hotspot for groundbreaking fashion events, fueled by the country’s relentless economic and technological advancements.
