Elle Fanning Lands Her First Vogue Cover

by Kristen Heinzinger

Elle Fanning graces the cover of Vogue’s June issue, marking her debut for the glossy. The actress has been making strides since her lead role in Neon Demon (don’t call her Dakota’s younger sis anymore!), and her Vogue coup comes in time for her next act. Fanning jetted to New Orleans, where Annie Leibovitz captured her in a series of romantic, ethereal, and beautifully eerie shots that spotlight the lesser-seen side of the home to Mardi Gras. The city played host to Fanning’s latest film, The Beguiled, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Colin Farrell that centers on an all-girls school in The South. In a tête-à-tête with editor Nathan Heller, Fanning weighs in on fame, family, and the future. Read highlights below, and devour the full interview HERE.

On life at 19…
“You have responsibilities at eighteen that you didn’t have before, but you still feel like a little kid.”

On being the younger sis to actress Dakota Fanning…
“You think, Gosh, if I didn’t have a sister who started acting, would I be acting?”

On her role model, Marilyn Monroe…
“You could always see the emotions that she was feeling . . . in her eyes. She didn’t know how great she was.”

On social media…
“Before you share, you get nervous: You can’t help but have those flashes. My sister has a million followers—which is nothing compared with Selena Gomez, who has the world.”

On dreams of being a director…
“As an actor, you’re exploring someone else’s vision. I’d like to be able to create that vision instead.”
