Is Murray Hill going avant-garde? Well, tomorrow when Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo opens to doors to her third Dover Street Market, things could get a bit weird. But in a good way, because the 20,000-square-foot shop has the potential to redefine the way the ‘hood thinks of department stores. It will be perched on the corner of Lexington Avenue and 30th Street, spanning over seven stories in a massive building that used to house Touro College, according to WWD. Art installations from Proper Gang and Sewell will be displayed alongside brands such as Christopher Kane, Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garçons, Raf Simons, Alaïa, and J.W. Anderson. DSM (as locals call it) will house a Louis Vuitton pop-up shop, plus an entire floor dedicated to ‘Prada at Dover Street Market,’ a specially designed collection. Sounds like the ideal place to scoop up all those last-minute gifts!
