New romance flick Sky stars Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus, a combination that certainly works for us. The film is the brainchild of director Fabienne Berthaud, Kruger’s BFF of 15 years, which was screened by IFC Films, The Cinema Society, and Hugo Boss at the Metrograph theater last night. The flick is about Romy (played by Kruger) who’s on vacation in the U.S. with her French husband Richard (Gilles Lellouche). But, the journey quickly turns into trouble, leading to a blowout between Romy and her husband that results in her decision to break free. She makes her way through Las Vegas to the high dessert, where she will cross paths with Diego (a.k.a. Reedus), a charismatic and solitary man who—without giving too much away—she perhaps falls in love with.
“My favorite vacations are the one’s where I have no idea where I’m going to sleep,” Kruger told us, recollecting her own vacation mishaps. “I love backpacking, so stuff happens all of the time. One night I remember being out and the hotel that was in the area was booked so I had to sleep in a car. Another time I slept under this giant shrimp in Australia…so much stuff has happened.” Kruger’s latest vacation? Attending her pal Jason Wu’s wedding over the weekend in Mexico. “It was so much fun.”
The film also stars Lena Dunham, Q’Orianka Kilcher, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Joshua Jackson, Kruger’s husband of 10 years. Naturally, the flick brought out a slew of guests, including John Corbett, Rob Thomas, Carla Gugino, Bryan Batt, Christine Seidel, Johnathan and Lizzie Tisch, photographer Mick Rock, and The New York Post’s Richard Johnson who made sure to go into the screening with the essentials: a tub of gourmet popcorn and jumbo boxes of gummies. Post-screening, the gang moved on over to Omar’s, the haute private club in the West Village, for the afterparty where Qui tequila cocktails, mingling, and more photo-ops awaited.
