The Academy of Art University will hold its graduate show on September 8, during New York Fashion Week. Ahead of the event, The Daily is highlighting some of the unique talents presenting their MFA collections at the show.
1. YI PAN
What to expect: Functional pastel-colored, fabrics paired with overinflated armor-like silhouettes.
Fashion for all: Pan’s garments are made to be worn by those who have disabilities or bodies that society considers different.
Inspiration: The Cyberpunk film “Being Pretty.” The animated short film is about how anyone who is different and not considered attractive by society becomes ostracized.

2. ABBY YANG
What to expect: Floral patterns on exaggerated hand-inspired silhouettes combined with lush, voluptuous shapes.
Obsessions: Hands. Yang used the shapes of hands caught in the act of love to form silhouettes for her collection.
Fun Fact: The designer believes that hands represent so much more than what we have come to believe. A symbolic way of communication often more powerful than words,
