Creatures of the Wind Ceases Runway Shows

Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters, the designers behind Creatures of the Wind which was founded in 2008, have decide to quit doing runway shows and shift their entire business model. The designers will now create clothing on a project basis rather than do full collections and runway shows. The duo will be working with retailers to create capsule collections and produce on a project basis, according to WWD. The designers said the traditional system wasn’t working for them anymore. Many designers before them have been struggling to reimagine the typical fashion production format with brands like Proenza Schouler deciding to show during the Paris Couture season or brands like Vetements who have chosen not to show at all in lieu of showroom and presentation appointments—however, Vetements recently announced they would be showing for men’s Autumn/Winter 2018.

A partnership with System magazine on a four-piece capsule collection that featured hand-drawn marijuana embroideries that was sold exclusively to Just One Eye in Los Angeles gave them the idea for how they wanted to proceed with their label. “It was really nice to have our hands physically on the development, [which] we normally don’t if we’re doing a full collection,” Peters told WWD.

In order to make the change in their business model Gabier and Peters have eliminated their staff and will be relocating their studio to an undisclosed location.
