Creatures Of The Wind Scores A Big Investment

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Major expansions are on the horizon for Creatures of the Wind: the Chicago-based RTW label, by Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters, is poised to nab a handsome investment from L.A.-based company The Dock Group. Helmed by The Row alum Matthew Walker (he was president and COO at the Olsen twins’ retail-savvy, critically adored line), The Dock Group’s M.O. is to pony up $300,000 to $1 million in brands they’re getting behind. The exact amount Gabier and Peters will receive remains unknown.

As for the impact of the fresh new investment? Manpower-wise, the label is poised to staff up from three employees to 14 or 15 staffers. Two of those impending new additions to the team are former students of Gabier, who teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (which is also the duo’s alma mater!). Among the reasons the designers might’ve piqued the interest of a key investor? They’ve got Ikram Goldman as their hometown fairy godmother figure, a Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund win to their name, a longstanding footwear collab with Tabitha Simmons, a spot in the running for the 2013-2014 International Woolmark Prize, and the presence of Anna Wintour at their NYFW showings. Gabier and Peters will also split their time between their Chicago turf and an NYC office (currently, they’ve got their LES apartment to work out of). What might Creatures evolve into? They’re beyond the cusp of fashionette success, so expect big things ahead…
