For all of Carine Roitfeld’s years of talent and experience as a stylist and editor, there was never any doubt that she could throw one hell of a fashion show. But her inaugural CR Runway show — which celebrated LuisaViaRoma’s 90th anniversary — was on a whole other level. Celebrities and supermodels descended on Florence for the mammoth 90-look show, presented in front of an audience of 3,700.
Keeping with the “90” theme, the show used fashion of the 1990s as an inspiration. Casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro helped Roitfeld re-create some of the decade’s most iconic looks using pieces from the Fall 2019 collections. But there were two show-stopping moments that featured vintage wears: midway through the runway Irina Shayk, Joan Smalls, and Bella Hadid donned archival Mugler. Meanwhile the grand finale featured pieces by Christian Lacroix.
Major models — including Gigi Hadid, Karen Elson, Lara Stone, Caroline Trentini, Paris Jackson, Stella Maxwell, Mariacarla Boscono, Doutzen Kroes, Alek Wek, Natasha Poly, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Halima Aden — walked the runway as guests such as Virgil Abloh looked on. The whole shebang concluded with a live performance by Lenny Kravitz.
This is only the beginning for CR Runway. Co-founded by Roitfeld and her son, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, the venture will be an annual event, holding shows across the globe. If last night’s show was any indication, this will be something to look forward to year after year. See more images from the runway below.
