Rei Kawakubo‘s ability to evoke emotion and thoughtfulness in tightly-edited collections (just 22 pieces, in this case) for Comme des Garçons never fails to impress. When roses and blood are the starting point for a series of garments, it would be difficult not to hit some emotional soft spot. Off the bat, look one was a literal take on that theme, with a jacket engulfed in roses. From there, diffused takes on that inspiration took hold. There were plenty of red leather ruffles, white fabric splattered with faux blood stains, and abstract shapes that emulated oversized veins and arteries. One dress composed of seemingly infinite layers of lace in shades of red and rust looked like an internal organ. There was also a straight jacket in red patent leather, with belt straps that flapped with each step. Still looking for the one, easily wearable piece for Spring? Consider the collection’s shoes, like clear Chelsea boots with little kitten heels. A (fairly) simple shoe for a decidedly complicated collection.
