Chanel Cruise 2017

by The Daily Front Row

Yesterday, Chanel showed its Cruise Collection in Havana at the Paseo del Prado, a parfait locale for the French house—the thoroughfare is a link between Cuba and France, and also showcases eight bronze statues of lions, Coco Chanel’s emblem. The show opened with a masculine-feminine jacket over wide-cuffed trousers, flat two-tone shoes, a fabric-belted shirt, and a Panama hat by Maison Michel worn by Stella Tennant. The foundation of the collection was a rendition of the guayabera, a Cuban shirt with pockets, shoulder tabs, and flat pleats (which the Kaiser renamed the “Cuban tux”). Also on tap: a jacket in fringed tweed, cycling shorts embroidered with camellias paired with multicolored palm trees, ethereal gowns with candy-colored prints of classic Buick, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac cars (still on the road in Cuba today), and a “cigar box” clutch. Below, see all the looks from the Cruise collection.
