Céline Spring 2016

by The Daily Front Row

Anyone in the mood for romance? Just when you dare to think you know what to expect from Phoebe Philo, she injects newness into the mix. For Spring, that meant lace, used as trimming on hemlines, bodices, and most notably, a slipdress. But that was only one element of Philo’s razor-sharp vision—her runways are full of suggestions for the myriad places life might take us. A chartreuse overcoat with a ribbed waist (for Film Forum on a Sunday afternoon in March), an off-the-shoulder blouse with corset boning (an early weeknight dinner in Positano, Budapest, Hong Kong), a long-sleeved, scooped-neck jersey dress (for ambling around a city, any city, on a summer afternoon). Sensual, powerful, and evolved—the Céline woman at her finest.
