Mugler has announced the appointment of Casey Cadwallader as the new artistic director of the French label, effective immediately. David Koma, who has served in that role for the past four years, is exiting the brand and will continue to work on his eponymous brand, which is based in London.

“I am grateful for having had the pleasure of working with David and I thank him for his powerful vision of the modern Mugler woman, which has drawn a new expression of the brand,” said Virginie Courtin-Clarins, managing director of Mugler fashion, in a press statement. “I wish him the best of luck with his future ambitions.”

Cadwallader, a 38-year-old American designer, studied architecture at Cornell before an internship at Marc Jacobs inspired a career in fashion. He has accrued 17 years of design experience, including roles as head of womenswear at Loewe, Narciso Rodriguez, and most recently, Acne Studios. He currently lives and works in Paris.

“The Clarins Group are very happy to welcome Casey Cadwallader to Mugler,” said Sandrine Groslier, president of Clarins Fashion Group, in a press statement. “His determination and unique sensitivity to Mugler’s artistic and experimental heritage will enable us to pursue the renewal of the house in the long-term. We are confident that his personal vision and talent will position Mugler amongst the most sought after avant-garde fashion brands of today.”
