Cardi B’s Met Gala Look Features 30,000 Feathers

Last year Cardi B was hands-down one of the best dressed at the Met Gala. Not only was her Moschino look intricate, it was also beautifully captured that year’s theme. It was a winner. Yet somehow, Cardi just managed to top her look.

The singer arrived in an elaborate Thom Browne dress and it. Has. Everything. There are feathers — 30,000 of them according to Vogue. There are sequins. Her quilted train is so long and heavy it requires the assistance of several grown men to sort out. If all that weren’t campy enough, there’s a trompe l’oeil aspect to it as well — if you look closely the torso of the dress is meant to resemble a nude. Lest you think it’s risqué, please note that the only bit of skin Cardi is showing is her face. Her hands are actually covered in tulle gloves. Apparently 35 people worked on the ensemble.

“I designed this dress for Cardi specifically because she has the ultimate beauty in a woman’s body, and that is what the dress is about for me: taking advantage of that beauty,” Browne told Vogue. She looks like a sculpture. Good job, Mr. Browne.
