Burberry Partners With The RealReal to Promote Circular Fashion
Burberry and luxury consignment e-tailer The RealReal are partnering to get shoppers excited about circular fashion. Starting today, customers who consign Burberry pieces on The RealReal will be offered an exclusive personal shopping experience in select Burberry stores across the U.S. “Leading the way in creating a more circular economy for fashion is a key element of our Responsibility agenda,” says Pam Batty, Burberry’s VP of corporate responsibility. “The enduring quality of Burberry pieces means their appeal and value is long-lasting. Through this new partnership we hope to not only champion a more circular future but encourage consumers to consider all the options available to them when they’re looking to refresh their wardrobes.”

Additionally, both companies are making a donation to Materials for the Arts, an NYC-based non-profit working to help and educate people about recycling their art materials. Burberry has been increasingly committed to sustainable practices since it was heavily criticized for its practice of burning unsold goods. The brand has not only promised to stop destroying old stock, but has also pledged to be plastic-free by 2025.

According to the British Retail Consortium, retail sales have “declined 1.3 percent in the year to September.” This is the worst September for British retailers since the mid-1990s when the records started.
