Bulgari Unveils B.zero1 Designs By Late Architectural Icon Zaha Hadid

Bulgari unveiled its new collaboration with the late architectural icon Zaha Hadid for its iconic B.zero1 collection at 520 West 28th, which is the first residential building designed inside and out by Hadid to open in New York City (interior photos of spec apartments below). The event was co-hosted by Bulgari’s North American brand president Daniel Paltridge along with Architectural Digest editor-in-chief Amy Astley and Maha Kutay, the director of Zaha Hadid Design.

“About four years ago Zaha [Hadid] was at the Bulgari hotel in Milan and she met with our global CEO Jean-Christophe Babin at the time and they were talking about the B.zero1, which is iconic collection for Bulgari,” said Paltridge. “It was just a great moment where we thought about Zaha reinterpreting this iconic collection. You know, the B.zero1 is inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, which in terms of architecture is the opposite end of what Zaha is known for, but is still a really iconic piece of architecture so the two things came together in the end. Two or three years later we’ve come out with the collaboration, which fits beautifully together.”

Hannah Bronfman DJ’ed the party for guests like Douglas Friedman, T.R. Pescod, Daisy Lowe, Lauren Remington Platt, Nausheen Shah, Sofia Resing, Luna Castilho, Mery Racauchi, Antony Todd, Mickey Boardman, and more, who came out to toast the new collaboration. Guests explored the designs through architectural displays and interactive virtual reality tours of Rome that introduced the collection.

“We didn’t know it would be one of her last designs,” said Paltridge of Hadid, who passed away a little over a year ago. “It’s very sad, but actually there are a number of her designs and projects that are coming out right now to make her legacy live on and we’re glad to be one of those.”
