Bryanboy Says Fur Is “the Most Sustainable Material in the World”

by Sydney Sadick

The Daily caught up with fashion blogger and front-row fixture Bryanboy at Dennis Bassos fall 2018 show to talk about his new life in Sweden, Valentine’s Day plans, and fur (it was a Dennis Basso show after all!).

Naturally you’re wearing fur to Dennis!
Definitely! Mink and sable. My favorites.

Have you gotten over Gucci’s fur-ban?
I mean, we live in interesting times. A lot of people are cutting back on fur but thank god there’s still a lot of fur out there. It’s never going to go away. I really do think fur is the most sustainable material in the world. There are tons of landfills out there filled with cheap fabrics that are being disposed everyday and for me it’s so wasteful. A good fur coat will outlive me. The coat I’m wearing will live on for another generation after me, or maybe even two generations, so I think it’s good for the planet.

It’s Dennis’ 35th anniversary. Earliest DB memory?
I’d read through my favorite fashion magazines growing up and see all of these Upper East Side b*tches in their chinchilla and sable and I was like this is what I want to be like when I get older, and here I am! It’s such an inspirational look. For me, Dennis is the king of fur in New York.

Where can we find you on the Upper East Side?
I’d probably be on 77th and park. I’m like a Park Avenue woman in my head.

You’re really exact there with 77th street!
Well one of my friends lives there and I just like that area. I love the ‘70s. If I go further up it’s like…hmm…I’m sticking to the ‘70s in my fantasy world.

Are you still living in Sweden?
I am! I moved there last year and it’s a different lifestyle. I love that I have space—I have a house by the lake—but it’s completely different. There was a big transition period after being in New York for 8 years. At least in New York there’s always an occasion to be dressed up for, but in Sweden there’s literally nothing.

Seriously?
Yeah! It’s like, where am I going to wear my cute clothes? The supermarket? In my minks?

So you’re a domestic Bryanboy in Sweden.
I am, but I never let go of who I am, so I always dress up even if I go to the salon. Luckily Stockhom is really close to Milan and Paris so I’m always out. It’s the only way for me to be sane.

What’s your Valentine’s Day plan? It’s always during NYFW!
I know! I’ll be doing lots of FaceTime with my husband before I go on the plane. I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day with him in so long!

Does he ever send you a gift?
He always sends me flowers and I feel bad because I should be sending something back. I’m like the worst wife ever. Giving him a call is romantic enough. For me it’s the thought that counts. You don’t always need to take someone out on a fancy date. A conversation where you look at each other in the eye and say “I love you” is enough.

Are you keeping up with the Olympics?
Um, no. Who has time for that? Fashion Week is the Olympics for me. Seeing all these women compete with their looks…it’s just as good!

Horsefeathers! Fur is anything but “green”—like other animal skins, fur has to be treated with a variety of toxic chemicals to keep it from rotting in the buyer’s closet. And a study of mink farms conducted by an independent research group in Europe concluded that mink fur production causes more harm to the environment than any other material analyzed, including polyester (a petroleum-based fabric).

fur is green, unlike all plastic microfibre used these days that destroy water

Click bait much? Daily Front Row this is so disappointing! Why are you giving people like this a platform? Where are the important stories from NYFW? Editors must be asleep at the wheel.
