Balenciaga’s Kids Shoes Are Here And They Cost $295

For a cool $295, your kid can be rocking the chicest kicks on the playground. Balenciaga has released its first foray into childrens footwear today — a small assortment of Kids Speed Trainers, done in four color ways.

Balenciaga, Kids Speed Trainers (available at MatchesFashion.com),$295

The house launched the childrenswear product category earlier this year with a unisex ready-to-wear spring 2018 collection — primary-colored mini-versions of some of the adults pieces from fall 2017.  That collection had been titled “Berncore,” with Demna Gvasalia’s reimagination of Bernie Sanders campaign logo emblazoned on much of the lineup.  Some of the Sanders-turned-Balenciaga logos have been reappropriated for the children’s version. Other slogans (“The Power of Dreams,” “Think Big!” etc.) are printed on the assortment of kids cotton hoodies and tee shirts. Logo hoodies cost $350 with matching sweatpants ticketing $250.

According to a study conducted by Business of Fashion, the childrenwear market is currently worth $1.4 billion and is estimated to grow 8 percent in the U.S. by 2021. The influx of luxe childrenswear lines like Yeezy Kids Supply and Vogue-favorite Maisonette could signal growth in the sector.

Gvasalia first unveiled his Balenciaga kids offerings during the brand’s mens shows last June, when some male models-turned-hot dads trotted down the runway hand-in-hand with their adorable, Balenciaga-clad offspring. “I thought it was so beautiful to see a young man with a child. It’s so hopeful and so hopeful,” Gvasalia told Dazed at the time. “There was this hopefulness actually that drove through the whole season, the kids represented that hope.”

The kids footwear also took inspiration from a grown-up version – the futuristic sock-sneaker hybrids that have become ubiquitous almost streetstyle bloggers. The kids kicks boast memory sole technology, shock absorbers, ankle-support, and — of course, an embossed Balenciaga logo.
