The upcoming documentary on Iris Apfel, Iris, doesn’t hit movie theaters in New York until April 29th, but a trailer has finally been released to satiate us in the meantime. The film celebrates 93-year-old Apfel and her husband Carl Apfel and puts a spotlight on the closet of all closets. In the trailer Apfel remarks, “I didn’t give a damn about going to the party or being at the party, it was about getting dressed for the party. There’s truth and poetry in that.” Preach.
We also learn that Apfel was the first woman to wear jeans, and she had some beef with Jackie O that she didn’t seem to want to get into. The film also includes appearances by Bruce Weber, Alexander Wang, and Linda Fargo. Iris will be of the final films of documentarian Albert Maysles, who died at 88 last week and brought the legendary doc Grey Gardens to the world. Fans of Grey Gardens can watch the film on the big screen again with the recent re-release of the 1975 film that returned last weekend. We suspect another Maysles classic is coming our way in just a few weeks.
