Anthony Vaccarello Fall/Winter 2016

by Paige Reddinger

Anthony Vaccarello is known for his skin-baring looks and ultra ultra minis, but this season Vaccarello brought the hauteness to a new level by reimagining his usual tropes. Laced corsets hugged hips instead of waists, and they came in many variations on blazers, barely-there dresses and skirts, which featured the lacing in the middle and on the side following the length of the woman’s curves. The idea was even used on the shoulder of a dress. Only one traditional corset made it into the collection—a lace version worn with slouchy trousers by Binx Walton.  (A little Gaultier-circa-Madonna‘s-MDNA-tour, no?)

And then there was the corduroy. Who knew it could be so haute? It lent a scholarly touch to moto jackets, and added freshness to a cream zip-front mini. Even a pair of black jeans benefitted from rips that ran from thigh to ankle done in a shiny fabric that made them look wet. Sizzling. These are the kind of clothes that should be front row (and definitely backstage at a rock concert), which is why it would make nearly perfect sense for Vaccarello to follow in Hedi Slimane‘s footsteps chez Saint Laurent. The rumor mills keep on churning…
