Anna Sui Fall 2015

by Alexandra Ilyashov

Chic time travel via the catwalk! As always, Anna Sui’s aesthetic for Fall was all things groovy and ’60s and ’70s inflected, with prints on prints and major layering. But this time around, there was some inspiration from the Vikings (more on that later) on display in her 51-look show, opened by Gigi Hadid in total boho babe mode. Shaggy Mongolian lamb toppers and vests came in bright, delightfully unnatural hues, while silhouettes for the extensive collection ranged from cozy knit or patterned dresses to jumpsuits to peasant blouses galore. Plenty of pieces looked straight out of a psychedelic yesteryear, basically untouched by 2015, like those funky finds one is always prowling for at a vintage store. Accessories played a prominent role on the runway, per usual for a Sui show: chunky ribbed tights, whimsical sunnies, ski goggles, plus a series of fuzzy hats, some festooned with Viking-like horns, in the final few looks. Perfectly wavy, voluminous, tousled coifs paired with the getups. Fun, young, and nostalgic: all the hallmarks of a Sui show were out in full force.
