Ann Taylor is gearing up for International Women’s Day with a brand new campaign, “This Is Ann,” a video starring all women and created by a solely-female creative team, including Grammy-nominated composer Meshell Ndegeocello. While the video celebrates the brand’s 60 years of dressing women by showing generations from the ’50s to today, it also encourages young women to apply or nominate someone they know who’s making positive changes in her community for the HERlead Fellowship. We tapped VP of marketing Holly Tedesco to tell us more.
Holly, tell us where the idea for “This Is Ann” began?
It was pretty organic. We were reflecting on what’s happening now and who we have always been as a brand. For over 60 years we’ve been getting women ready for work and the moments beyond. So much has changed and we’ve grown together – it felt like the right time to reflect on the women who inspire us and their real lives.
How did you come to work with Meshell?
Meshell has a personal connection to the brand and when she saw the video, she offered to partner with us. The all-female creative team is in-house. We’re all working women – just like our clients – so while the video connects to what’s happening in culture, it’s also really personal.
Who are the women in the video?
They’re meant to be any and every woman. We wanted to capture those universal moments that connect us. It’s about who we are together—the women we stand behind and beside.
Which outfit in your closet makes you feel most empowered?
Like a lot of our clients, I dress for my day. Some days that’s a dress and heels, others it’s a great pair of jeans, a blazer and statement earrings. Either way, it’s about feeling confident. Ann Taylor is celebrating over 60 years of inspiring women to put their best selves forward every day.
