Model Angela Lindvall to Teach Premiere Yoga Session at MSG

by Sydney Sadick

On March 7, social venture REBUILD Globally will present Impact Garden, a sustainability and wellness ticketed charity event (tickets available here) at Madison Square Garden that aims to utilize fashion to help end poverty. We chatted with supermodel and yoga instructor Angela Lindvall, who will teach the first-ever yoga session at the NYC landmark, about the initiative and what’s on her radar.

How does it feel to be kicking off the first yoga session on the MSG court?
I feel honored to have been invited to teach. It’s also a great opportunity for me personally to step forth and share.

What was the last event you attended at MSG?
It’s been awhile because I moved to LA years back, but I’ve been plenty of times in the past. Metallica concert, Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, and Knicks games to name a few.

You’ll be teaching kundalini yoga…What exactly is it?
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient yoga known as “the yoga of awareness.”  It’s a combination of ancient yogi technologies such as pranayama [breath-work], mantra [sound], meditation, and asanas [postures]. Through stimulating Shakti, the life force energy stored at the base of the spine, one channels this energy through the chakra centers. This rises our consciousness to our full creative potential. On a scientific level, it stimulates the endocrine system, the nervous system, and our physical and subtle bodies.

Why did you decide to team up with REBUILD Globally?
As a longtime activist of positive change, I believe that it’s through self care that we change our lives physically, emotionally, and mentally. By taking care of ourselves, we can care better for others and the planet. Kundalini yoga has transformed my life. By expanding our consciousness and compassion, we can create a better world for ourselves and others.

What can we expect at the session?
I’m excited that 188 people will collectively tap into their higher consciousness and I hope everyone will have a true “inner” experience. We will “tune in” with a mantra, do some breath work, body work, and end with meditation.

Are any of your friends coming out for the event?
One of my dearest girlfriends, and hopefully some other IMG models.

Have taught a class with that many participants?
Never! I’ve been at some great festivals with that many people, but as a participant, and it’s really powerful group energy.

What’s your favorite yoga brand right now?
“Be Love” is a great company.

How about yoga pose?
Bound Lotus.

Any music you’re currently loving?
I’m pretty diverse. From Chopin to Soul R&B, to old school R&R, and world music from Africa, India, Cuba, and Latin America.

Where’s the most zen place you’ve been to recently?
Kauai! It’s the land of rainbows and has very high pranic energy.

Are you currently teaching yoga anywhere?
I teach for my community in my home in Topanga.

Favorite snacks between sessions?
Avocados and nut butters.

Are you working on any other projects?
With two other amazing women I’m creating an eight-week women’s empowerment online course.
