Altuzarra Fall/Winter 2016

Altuzarra’s show stirred up palpable excitement in the crowd this season. The eclectic mix of fabrics, textures, and colors looked like nothing else on the runways, and the wild mix of patterns like florals mixed with sporty pants were a hit. “I thought it was Joseph’s best show yet,” Julie Gilhart told us afterward. “I loved the way he mixed all of the black and white, the shearling, and the sweaters. It was such a beautiful collection. I also loved the sparkle dresses at the end. I’m really excited for him.”

Shearlings have been on nearly every runway, but Altuzarra’s floral- and Indian paisley-infused versions really stood out. Plus, turtleneck knits with Napa lacing, the above mentioned beaded kerchief dresses that closed the show, fringe jacquard sweaters, and the take on Turkish and Moroccan folkloric costumes looked really fresh. “I wanted to be free to follow my curiosity about the world we live in, and weave a tapestry of references and stories into this collection,” said Joseph Altuzarra in the show notes. “I also wanted this to speak to women I know, and the reality of their lives.” Women, presumably, like Vanessa Traina and Mélanie Huynh, who happened to have styled the show. Bravo!
