by Alexandra Ilyashov

Perry Ellis returns to the runway after a 3 year hiatus under the creative direction of Michael Maccari. While SNL funnyman Jay PharaohBreaking Bad’s RJ Mitte, and Nigel Barker settled in at the front of the house, your Daily wove through tons of models backstage to get nosy with Maccari about things…

It’s been three years since we’ve seen Perry Ellis on the runway: are you nervous about the big return?
A little bit, but mostly excited! I’ve only been with Perry Ellis for eight months; e have done a lot of work to get here and to do something different. It’s nice to see it all come together so well.

Does this mark a shift for the brand?
Absolutely. We’re moving forward in a really fresh direction without straying too far from who we are as a brand.

Tell me about the inspiration for the collection.
I really pulled from the linear and architectural elements of the city and the work of artist Sean Scully, who I’ve been a fan of for a long time. I love the striping that Sean does and we turned into a sophisticated element throughout several of the pieces in the collection.

Do you own any pieces by Sean?
I wish! Even the books are expensive! Maybe someday though…

You know what aren’t expensive. Selfies…Have you ever taken an R-rated selfie?
Ha! No comment.
