(NEW YORK) Last night, Calvin Klein Collection and The Human Rights Campaign hosted a special event to support the “Americans For Marriage Equality” campaign at the brand’s Madison Avenue flagship. With the likes of Uma Thurman, Josh Lucas, Andrew Rannells, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Dan Stevens, Alan Cumming, and Carolyn Murphy in the house, mayoral hopeful and Speaker of the New York City Council Christine Quinn spoke in support of HRC before introducing Goldman Sachs CEO and chairman Lloyd Blankfein. Before they headed off to a night at the theatre, cute couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka spoke with The Daily about why they were there, marriage, and their packed Broadway schedule.

OK, this might sound a bit inane, but what made you guys come out to support this event?
Neil: We believe in what HRC does as an organization, and it’s kind of remarkable over the past two or three months to see the weather change from a political standpoint in all of this. We’re very fortunate to be in New York at this time. We got to introduce and host the LGBT Community Center awards, where [activist] Edith Windsor spoke and was honored. To get to come here and hear Ms. Quinn speak…It’s nice to represent in any way we’re able.
David: They’re making a really big difference with discrimination and marriage equality. It’s great to lend your name and support.
Neil: And you get to wear a nice Calvin Klein Collection suit!
What was the most fun gay wedding you’ve ever been to?
David: I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a gay wedding!
Neil: I don’t think I have, either!
They’re very fun!
David: We live in L.A. so there are not that many gay weddings out there. They happen more frequently in New York.
When are you guys going to tie the knot?
David: I planned this big, giant scavenger hunt for Neil that took up eight months of my life. It’s not that we don’t want to! We’re just so busy…
Neil: My 40th birthday is this year. His Dad’s 70th is this year. It takes months and months to plan a wedding so we don’t want to give it short shift. We have babies, though, so we’re not going anywhere…
Does the Prop 8 situation have anything to do with it?
David: If Prop 8 had gone through, we probably would’ve been married by now.
Neil: We didn’t go and get married right away because there was so much press and hoopla. People were standing at City Hall wanting to take pictures of everyone and I didn’t want it to seem like we were making a political statement by getting married. I thought we could wait until that died down and do it, but by that time Prop 8 had happened and we weren’t able to do it. I kind of made a crap decision there, but I’m hopeful that it’s inevitable.
David: It will be the perfect age for our kids to be the flower girl and ring bearer.
Are you guys living in New York for the spring?
Neil: We’re just here for a couple of weeks.
What Broadway shows are you seeing?
Neil: We’re seeing Pippin tonight; we saw Matilda this afternoon. We’re seeing our friend Alan Cumming in Macbeth, too, and we’re also seeing Orphans and Hands On A Hardbody. We’re trying to jam them in. Also, I loved Cinderella!
