14 hours with Payton Sartain in Cannes: Creator, Podcast Host & WAG

The 30-year-old creator-turned-entrepreneur shares her travel tips, style advice + favorite spots in Cannes

by Tom White

Cannes is the hot spot for celeb sightings, iconic fashion moments, and picture-perfect landscapes ideal for the IG feed. This year, we’ve seen a surplus of celebs and creators alike travel to the city, leaving fans and followers at home envious and wondering what Cannes is really like.

Creator, entrepreneur, podcast host, and WAG Payton Sartain was recently invited to the city to celebrate the launch of a friend’s Revolve collection, and she took us along for the ride. As someone who has been in the creator space for almost a decade, Payton is undoubtedly an expert on all things content creation, travel, and of course – fashion. Known for her podcast, Note to Self, Payton is recognized as the internet’s big sister who isn’t afraid to have honest conversations. Currently, Payton spends her time traveling with her boyfriend, Joe Ross of the Milwaukee Brewers, while providing an authentic outlook on life, love, fashion, beauty, and everything in between. She also wants everyone to know that “baseball is for the girls.”

Below, Payton recounts her day in Cannes, her typical morning routine, and how the ever-evolving intersection between sports and fashion has impacted her life and style choices.

WAKING UP WITH AN OCEAN VIEW

9:00AM: I flew out to Cannes with a few girlfriends first to celebrate the launch of my friend Bridget Bahl’s new collection with Revolve. It is very much inspired by the South of France, so there is truly no better way to celebrate! We are spending the week exploring, trying new restaurants & beach clubs, and partaking in a few Cannes Lions events.

I started my day with room service, as one does in the South of France. I’m staying in a neighboring town to Cannes, at a stunning hotel called La Réserve de Beaulieu. I ordered myself a cappuccino, an omelet, a bakery basket, and a green juice, and sat overlooking the ocean from my balcony. A dream!

9:30AM: Shortly after breakfast, I began getting ready for the day. I threw on this Helsa mini dress, which is one of my go-to looks because I can dress it down for day or up for nighttime. When it comes to hair and makeup, I prefer to keep things low-maintenance for trips like these. I let my natural waves come out and I wear a simple combo of Kosas SPF, Hourglass concealer, Saie Beauty blush, a Dior lip oil, and drugstore waterproof mascara for today’s makeup. My Charlotte Tilbury powder comes along with me for touch-ups, of course.

“I’ve been creating content online since 2016, and since then, I’ve changed A LOT as a person. At first, I was trying to figure out who I am and how I want to represent myself. With this journey came a lot of style experimentation, falling victim to trends, and making some seriously bad outfit decisions (don’t we all?) Now, at 30-years-old, I’ve really been able to simplify my wardrobe. I like classic, well-fitting pieces that will last. Nowadays, I’m prioritizing what looks best on my body and what makes me feel more like me, rather than chasing the next trend.”

MIU MIU IN CANNES IS A MUST

12PM: We went into the city around 12pm, and immediately headed to Miu Miu! I had a very specific striped cropped tee from Miu Miu in mind for today’s shopping excursion. I love a stripe of any kind for a baseball game day outfit, and this cropped tee is the perfect mix of casual but high-end. I can’t wait to style it! After doing some damage at Miu Miu, I resigned myself to window shopping for the rest of the excursion.

“My life as a creator allows me to live and express myself freely and authentically, all while working from whatever corner of the world I’m feeling. On a different note, getting to be a part of my boyfriend’s story as he lives out his dream of playing Major League baseball is something I consider an honor. I love that sharing my baseball-adjacent lifestyle, whether it’s a game day outfit or a day-in-the-life vlog, is something women are increasingly more interested in. I’ve always said baseball is for the girls!”

A QUICK PINTEREST EXCURSION

2PM: Before heading to meet my friends for a late lunch, I stopped by Pinterest Cannes, an immersive experience that included drinks, DIYs, a tattoo parlor, professional color analysis, and so much more. Pinterest is my most- & longest-used social platform (I’ve been on it nearly every day since college), so it’s only right that I spent some time at the Manifestival experience.

“I started my podcast, Note to Self back in 2021. I’ve always loved long-form content– I actually started my career as a blogger, and I missed diving into topics a little deeper than a social media post often allows for. I bought myself a cheap mic from Amazon and attempted to teach myself basic editing (I wasn’t very good, but “done” is better than “perfect!”) My favorite evenings of that year were spent sitting in bed, a glass of wine poured, and my cheap little mic in-hand. NTS has grown a lot since those days, but I try to stick to the same intimate feel that particular setting afforded me.”

OUTFIT CHANGE & A LATE LUNCH

3:30PM: After making a quick change into my favorite dress from Bridget x REVOLVE, a lace maxi dress number, my friends and I took a small boat out to the infamous La Guérite for a late lunch. Calling this a normal “lunch” would be wrong– it’s a full-on party. The music was blaring, the food was 10/10 (highly-recommend any pasta on the menu), and the rosé was flowing. People were standing on their chairs dancing, laughing, & singing. It’s not your typical lunch experience but definitely on for the books.

“The rise of social media has made people increasingly interested in upping their style game in general, so it’s no wonder it has bled into the sports world. Fashion and sport are two major pillars of our culture, and I’m obsessed with athletes making a statement with their outfits pre-game and outside of game days. Capturing the Americana-feel of baseball, mixing it with my own personal style, and tailoring it to whatever city the team is playing in is one of my favorite things.”

PASTA IN MONTE CARLO? YES PLEASE.

10PM: We had some downtime after lunch to decompress, shower, drink another cappuccino (my favorite) and get ready for a late dinner at Cipriani in Monte Carlo. We were truly all over the place today, but we didn’t mind spending a little extra time in the car to make the itinerary happen. I’ll do just about anything for a good plate of pasta, and that we did.

11:30PM: Our last stop of the day was Casino de Monte-Carlo, which was a must for us post-dinner, because how could we not? We made friends with a few locals, had a nightcap (or two) and got to experience the splendor that is Casino de Monte-Carlo. Photos aren’t allowed inside, much to our dismay, but let me tell you, it’s extremely impressive– the sexiest casino I’ve ever seen. After the casino, we went back to the hotel and called it a night (finally), ready for the next exciting day ahead.
