Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring 2015

by Daniel Chivu

Maria Cornejo did her usual minimalistic thing, to great effect. She wanted this collection to exude positivity and serenity while the world at large battles darker times; deep, non? Crisp whites, stark black and whites paired with cool greys, rich oceanic blues, and the occasional pop of turquoise and blush pink. The outcome? Very tranquil. B&W neoprene strapless dresses were tricked out with deep pockets, a steely grey and cascading jumpsuit with an ultra thin keyhole neckline, and a dusky blue drop waist dress with a hemline that fell below the knees all made cameos. This collection rang true to Cornejo’s clients, who are impressed by fine detailing and tailoring. No embellishment is necessary save for lasered filigree cuffs by Victoria Sims. The lacework detail paired wonderfully with the final five looks—monochrome outfits in black or white sheer, structured lace.
