Yigal Azrouël Fall 2015

by Daniel Chivu

When it comes to colors, Yigal Azrouël tends to stick to darker hues. This collection involved shades of black, grey, and touches of white and emerald. An exciting detail that found its way into the collection this time was a band of fabric. Simple, but impactful: on a one-sleeved dress, it crossed the body as a bandeau of sorts, disappearing into the back of a dress. Also peppered throughout were bold geometric shapes and thin lines of color that you might miss if you blinked. Was Azrouël inspired by art? Absolutely. In his show notes, he mentioned Man Ray, Malevich, and Bauhaus as influences. Thus, there were artful jacquards and plenty of furs, like a colorblock mink coat or a moto jacket with snow-white shearling. Whichever way you take it, these pieces are certainly a way to add a touch of creativity to a Fall wardrobe.
