Vows With A View At Gramercy Park Hotel

by The Daily Front Row

Gramercy Park Hotel’s general manager Dan Entenberg dishes on the in-demand nuptials venue!

What makes the hotel a wedding hautespot?
Our rooftop terrace makes guests feel like they’re walking into an enchanted secret garden in the middle of New York City. Plus, we’ve got over a million dollars worth of art up there by Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, George Condo, and Andy Warhol.

Quite the collection! What happens if it rains?

There’s a retractable roof, so there’s no need for a plan B!

What’s the menu like?
We partner with Union Square Hospitality, so Danny Meyer and his team run all culinary aspects for private events.

Any wacky nibbles you’ve served up?
We’ve had a milk and cookies bar. And at one wedding, each guest left with a slice of pizza.

PLUS! Some Extra Gramercy Park Wedding Intel…
Do you have any memorable weddings that have taken place on the terrace?

Once we had a bride and groom who had a bunch of guests come to the terrace for what was supposed to be a party and at one point they handed out these save the date cards to every guest. As the envelopes were opened, the guests realized the save the date was for that particular day. We then drew back the curtain and revealed a secret ceremony and the couple got married on the spot.

How many weddings take place per year?
On average we do 35-40, but this year we’ve hosted 52 weddings. Some weeks we do two weddings, but other weeks we do three weddings.

Do you have a particular time of year that is most popular for weddings?
September to October is busy, as is the springtime, but with our retractable roof and temperature controlled environment, we’re able to do weddings throughout the year.
