Vionnet Resort 2015

by Paige Reddinger

Goga Ashkenazi‘s resort collection for Vionnet this season was all about the fusion of nature and tech. The veiny wings of dragonflies served as the inspiration for most of the patterns throughout the collection, The insect-centric motif cropped up on pieces like a long white halter neck evening gown with an asymmetrical hemline made from giant square pieces of technical organza, or on a trench with emphasized rubber bonding details on the pockets. Also on offer: a black and white reversible mesh dress and Grecian style dresses (touching on the codes of the house originally instilled by Madeleine Vionnet) that could be day or evening wear.

Other elements that stayed true to house codes including classic Vionnet plissé done on modern silhouettes like a mini sapphire blue romper, or the peach Grecian lines found on an mossy green trench or on spiral constructions for a layered element. Splashes of color came in royal blue, fuchsia, and yellow that blended together to create the iridescent effect of a dragonfly’s wing came on a dress coat, a skirt suit, and a romper. As for the accessories? Sneakers fashioned into Grecian gladiator-style sandals, which left us wondering, “Why didn’t anyone think of this before?”
