(NEW YORK) Tod’s is adding a new leading lady to the mix: Alessandra Facchinetti has been tapped as creative director of the women’s collection at the leather-hewed house.

The Italian designer’s got her industry start in 1994 as designer and coordinator at Miu Miu. Facchinetti decamped from Gucci in March 2005 after two seasons helming its womenswear, prior to which worked for three years under Tom Ford at the label. Apres-Gucci, Facchinetti launched Moncler’s Gamme Rouge collection circa 2006. Facchinetti then headed to Valentino in 2008, for a brief stint (a duo of collections) as Valentino Garavani’s successor. Two years ago, Facchinetti launched her own 24-look line, Uniqueness, addled with an almost-instant runway to e-commerce concept and the backing of Italian fast fashion line Pinko’s Pietro Negra

“As an Italian designer, I feel very honored to take up such an important role for a brand that—with the highest quality and refinement—helps to keep up the prestige of Made in Italy in the world,” Facchinetti said in a statement.

Facchinetti will start her new gig at Tod’s next month; her first collection will debut for Spring 2014, at Milan Fashion Week this September. Expect an emphasis on furthering the label’s spate of ready-to-wear offerings, in addition to Fachinetti’s helming of the Italian label’s expansive women’s accessories.
