by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK)  LVMH announced a few months ago that they were beginning their search for the “next big thing”, via their freshly-minted LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Now that the applicant pool of 1,200 hopeful designers has been sifted through, the first round of finalists has been announced. So, who’s progressing to the Prize’s next level? Atto by Julien Dossena, CG by Chris Gelinas, Gabriele Colangelo, Shayne Oliver’s Hood by Air, Jacquemus by Simon Porte Jacquemus, Miuniku by Nikita and Tina Sutradhar, Thomas Tait, Tillmann Lauterbach, Tim Coppens, Simone Rocha, Suno by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, and Vika Gazinskaya.

The hopeful designers are in the running to take home the prize of 300,000 Euros. Next up, they’ll decamp for LVMH’s Parisian HQ in May to present their Fall 2014 collections. Each participant will be granted 15 minutes to show off their wares to a judging council that includes the biggest designers of today, including Karl Lagerfeld, Dior’s Raf Simons,  Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Céline’s Phoebe Philo, and Kenzo’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. While there were only supposed to be 10 finalists, LVMH’s chosen panel was purportedly so impressed with the competition that they could only whittle the list down to 12 contenders. With this talented crew, choosing one winner should prove all the more challenging…
