The 2015 CFDA Award Winners: Who Scored Last Night?

by The Daily

At last night’s CFDA Awards, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s The Row bested the competition for Womenswear Designer of the Year, and Tom Ford took top honors on the hommes front as Menswear Designer of the Year. In terms of accoutrements, Tabitha Simmons won the Accessory Designer of the Year title. As for the trio of Swarovski Awards: Rosie Assoulin snagged the Womenswear category, Hood By Air took home a Trova for Menswear, and Mansur Gavriel’s adored bucket bags nabbed the brand the Accessory Design accolade.

Betsey Johnson accepted her Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award with an on-stage split (of course!), while Kevin Systrom of Instagram scooped up the Media Award and Pharrell scored  the Fashion Icon Award, naturally. Plus! The Founder’s Award went to J.Crew’s Mickey Drexler, and the International Award went to Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. “We’re so excited,” said Grazia Chiuri and Piccioli before the show. “It’s like a dream.” While in New York the design duo said they love to go running in Central Park, go to Brooklyn, and go to the museums and had recently check out the new Whitney Museum. Where were they staying? The Pierre, bien sûr!

It was a parade of fashion’s A-Listers last night as they mingled during the cocktail hour. We spotted Bella Hadid arm-in-arm with designer Misha Nonoo. “Bella wore one of my designs about two months ago and when I saw her in it I thought she looked so amazing so I asked her there and then if she would come with me to the CFDA awards,” said Nonoo.  “It was a beautiful white dress and it was my favorite thing I wore all year,” said Hadid. “So when she asked me, of course I said yes!” Actress Julianna Margulies looked stunning in a sparkly Michael Kors gown. Margulies and Michael Kors first met when she started to support his charity Gods Love We Deliver. Margulies is always looks just right on the red carpet. How does she do it? “If you don’t look comfortable in what you’re wearing, you wont look it on the red carpet. I’m just a little bit more no non-sense than most,” said Margulies. “I’ve always had big hair and big features so fashion-wise I’ve always tried to stay a little more modest instead of too much. When you are comfortable, it shows.” The grand dame of the evening and president of the CFDA, Diane Von Furstenberg told us she had planned to wear something completely different. “I forgot it was black tie and so I changed at the last minute,” said von Furstenberg. “This was actually one of my options for The Met.” Always prepared!
