Swarovski Makes A Sparkly Debut In The Wearable Tech Realm

by Dena Silver

Following in the footsteps of Opening Ceremony and Tory Burch, the latest company to put their signature touch on the wearable tech trend is Swarovski. Yes, the sparkle factor is definitely present. Officially called Swarovski Shine, the nine-piece collection features a mix of bracelets, pendants, and watch bands, all of which are compatible with this glitzy activity tracker. Powered by Misfit, a fitness company that focuses on tracking technology, the Shine records steps taken, calories burned, and sleep quality. The data is then synced with a coordinating smartphone app, allowing users to monitor their daily output.

The collaboration between Swarovski and Misfit doesn’t end here: the two will be unveiling a Shine design later this year that works without charging or battery changes. “Observing the high tech market, we felt the opportunity to inject an aesthetic added-value that would turn useful products into on-trend accessories,” said Joan Ng, senior vice president of product marketing for the Asia-Pacific region. While these accessories are ready for pre-order now, with delivery slated for March 2015, attendees at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9 will get an up close look at the tech-y range.
