Surface Summer Hangout Returns

Modellounge X Microsoft hosted their ‘Surface Summer Hangout’ on the rooftop of the Gansevoort’s Meatpacking location on Friday. “The idea is to provide models with an escape from everyday city life, without having to travel or jet-set to the Caribbean,” founder and director Bernard Smith tells us. This year there are four events lined up where female mods (sorry, no boys!) can play water-pong, compete in hula-hoop challenges, or get complimentary massages and manicures. This year, they’ve added a new dimension with the introduction of ‘Surface’ technology, so the girls can play while sunning. “In the summer, we wanted to provide an escape that’s the complete opposite of the stress and intensity that comes with fashion month. During fashion week everything is uncertain for models–including what shows you’re going to book, how well your season will be, etc. Long story short, it’s a nice way to spend four weeks in summer before they need to begin training and get ready for shows in September,” Smith adds. “Each week is island themed, kind of like a Caribbean carnival, decorated with palm trees and other tropical elements. We play reggae, soca, and other island-inspired music.” As for hitting up their next event? Invite-only, loves.
