Style.com To Shutter Its Print Title

by The Daily Front Row

Style.com is returning to its digital-only roots, apparently: The Condé title is shuttering its print publication, which debuted in early 2012 and has put out seven issues in total. “Since relaunching in early September, the site continues to exceed growth expectations. To continue that momentum, we’ve made the decision to focus 100% of our efforts on our core digital business,” said a Style.com spokesperson. The quarterly glossy, entitled Style.com/Print, garnered lots of industry attention as the unusual example of a print pub spinning off of an exclusively digital property.

Could Anna Wintour be behind the squelching of the site’s print iterationbecause of overlap with Vogue‘s milieu? NY Post‘s Keith Kelly seems to think so. Word of Style.com going back to being strictly online follows last month’s news that the title’s EIC, Dirk Standen, would report to Wintour, and that publisher Matt Rice would report to Vogue publisher Susan Plagemann. On a more HR-centric note, new plans for the site to cohabit a floor of 1 World Trade Center with Vogue were revealed yesterday.
