Stephen Mooallem Replaces Kimberly Cutter at Harper's Bazaar

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) More shakeups chez Hearst: Harper’s Bazaar executive editor Kimberly Cutter is parting ways with the magazine.  Cutter has been with Bazaar for one year, and is bidding adieu to spend time penning her second novel. Her first book, The Maid, was based on the life of Joan of Arc and was published in October 2011. Cutter’s successor is Stephen Mooallem, who is leaving his post as editor-in-chief at Interview to join Bazaar.

Cutter arrived at Harper’s Bazaar last December from her executive features director role at Brides. Her previous stint at Bazaar was as acting features director in 2007; she has also written for the glossy as a freelancer. Additionally, Cutter has written for ELLE UK and was a contributing editor at Marie Claire. She was also the West Coast editor at W from 2000 to 2004.

Harper’s Bazaar EIC Glenda Bailey elaborated on her new hire in a statement: “Stephen comes to us with great experience and a unique point-of-view that will continue to support [our] mission to be timely but timeless.”

Prior to becoming EIC at Interview in 2009, Mooallem was named executive editor at the mag in 2008, following his stint as a senior editor at the title. Before joining Interview in 2003, Mooallem was the features editor at Gear Magazine, as well as a contributor to Paper and Vibe. His first editorial gig was as a reporter at Spin. Mooallem’s successor at Interview has yet to be revealed.
