Sophie Theallet Collaborates With Lane Bryant

(NEW YORK) Lane Bryant’s latest addition to their offerings? The plus size retailer will stock boudoir-ready wares by Sophie Theallet. The French-born designer is lending her flirty aesthetic to Bryant’s Cacique lingerie line, with a capsule collection that will be displayed amongst the store’s wares, which is offered in sizes 14 to 28. In earlier collab news, Lane Bryant is in the midst of launching a collaboration with Isabel and Ruben Toledo. The Toledos will present their entire capsule collection for the first time this Thursday, at an intimate fashion show. Meanwhile, Theallet teamed up with The Limited for a ready-to-wear diffusion line in 2012.

The goal of these partnerships is to make designer collabs inclusive to women of all sizes. Bryant’s CEO Linda Heasley explained to WWD: “Beautiful clothing should not be limited to size 12 and under. We hope this helps change [that] view.” Heasley first thought that Theallet would be a good collaborator after seeing one of her fashion shows and noting that her French design roots would translate well into a lingerie line. As a result, the forthcoming intimates collection features floral motifs, intricate draping, and delicate details that mirror her overall feminine approach. Theallet’s first job in the biz was in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s studio; she then spent a decade at Azzedine Alaïa’s atelier, before launching her eponymous label in 2007. In the years since the label’s launch, the designer has won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award and participated in the Woolmark prize for two consecutive years.
