A Disney animated classic is getting a pretty highbrow redux: Sofia Coppola is slated to direct the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, according to the folks at The Hollywood Reporter. Don’t expect the Hans Christian Andersen-penned tale to get all angsty-ethereal a la The Virgin Suicides, or precocious, raucous, crime-ridden good times in the vein of The Bling Ring: this remake will be wholesome, family-apropos fare.
